Frequently asked questions
The short answers to what candidates and employers ask most about CareersNZ.
For job seekers
What is CareersNZ?
A national talent pool for Aotearoa. Candidates across every sector join, and employers reach them while your contact details stay private until you choose to apply.
Is it free?
Yes. Joining and staying in the pool is free for candidates, and nothing is ever taken from your pay.
What can employers see about me?
Only a first name, your location, licences and a short bio. Never your surname, email or phone until you apply.
Can I withdraw?
Yes, at any time. You can also update your details whenever you like.
Do I need a CV or experience to join?
No. There is no CV upload and no minimum experience. School leavers, career changers and people returning to work all join, and several sectors hire on reliability and train from there.
Will my current employer see that I am in the pool?
Profiles are not public pages and are not indexed by search engines. Your card carries no surname and no contact detail, so there is nothing to search for.
How long before I hear from an employer?
It depends on who is hiring in your sector and region. Ticking more than one sector, and marking yourself flexible on location if you would relocate, both increase how often you are matched.
For employers
How much does it cost?
Registering and posting roles is free. You verify a business email, then post or paste a listing. There is no per-hire fee and no placement commission.
How do I post a role?
Create a listing directly, or paste a Seek or Trade Me link and we prefill the details from your own advert. Choose the sector and regions, and we match candidates from the pool.
Do you scrape or harvest data from job sites?
No. We do not harvest or store data from Seek, Trade Me or other job sites. When your role links to an external advert, we simply send that link to matched candidates so they apply on your existing listing. The only candidate information in CareersNZ comes from candidates who chose to join the talent pool.
When do I get contact details?
You see privacy-minimal cards first. Full details reach you only when a candidate chooses to apply to your role.
Why do I have to verify a business email?
It keeps the pool free of people fishing for personal data, which is the reason candidates are willing to be visible. One minute, once.
General
Which sectors do you cover?
Every major New Zealand sector, from freight and trades to healthcare, hospitality and finance. See the full list on the sectors page.
Which regions do you cover?
All of them, from Northland to Southland, and candidates can mark themselves as flexible on location if they would relocate.
Is CareersNZ a job board or a recruitment agency?
Neither. A job board lists vacancies and waits for applications. An agency places people for a fee. CareersNZ is a talent pool: candidates are visible to verified employers, nobody is charged, and the candidate always makes the first move.
Who runs CareersNZ?
It was founded by Gordon Findlay and sits alongside Capability Solutions, a New Zealand training business. More on the about page, or email hello@careersnz.co.nz.
